Discoveries at Antiques for Everyone!
I had a fantastic day yesterday, not only was there glorious sunshine, but more importantly the Antiques for Everyone Spring Fair opened at the NEC. The halls were full of keen bargain hunters and those in search of real hidden gems. There were lots of great pieces on display from beautiful silver and paintings to and jewellery. But antiques are not just for the avid collector, check out our piece in this week’s Birmingham Post. Judith Miller, from the BBC’s Antiques Roadshow talks about antiques being an investment for the future. Among the great items for sale we discovered the first solar panel – and it still works over 60 years later! The best bit is that it’s on the Daily Mail website. To find out about this fascinating piece go to: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-1264487/Worlds-solar-panel-uncovered-60-years–works.html
We’ve also got a great collection of working vehicles from the 1900s from Coventry Transport museum. The star of the show is a 1963 Daimler Bus, the last bus in the West Midlands which you could get on and off at the back, made by Metro Cammell Weymann in Birmingham. There’s also a mini coach from 1954 and an Austin Gipsy fire engine made at the Longbridge plant.
The Antiques for Everyone Spring Fair is going on until Sunday April 11th so if you want to check out the fair and for tickets go to http://www.antiquesforeveryone.co.uk
